As a mix-media artist, I have various skills in painting, drawing, and illustration work. I find inspiration from the people around me, my experiences, and my growth. As a black woman who has been raised and is around people of color, I draw inspiration from the experiences I have and the experiences and culture of others around me. I am mainly self-taught with my art education really starting when I began at Sam Houston State University in the fall of 2021. I use my assignments from my classes as well as self-assigned artwork that I do outside of class in order to grow in my technical skills as well as be more well-rounded as an artist.
Many of my artworks come on from spontaneous ideas or feelings. When my ideas are not spontaneous, then they are carefully planned out for weeks at a time. I fill my sketchbooks with pages on pages of research on different words for titles, different reference images, and trying different color palettes. I feel that my time in my university art classes has pushed me to be more meticulous in my artwork. I love the artwork I have made, and I am excited to make even more work and continue to grow.
